Four Johnson Jaguar wrestlers are officially state bound after they excelled at the UIL Region III wrestling meet in Austin at the Toney Burger Center this past weekend.
Jaguar wrestler Alyssa Escareno led the way as she took home first place and the Region Championship in the 102 lbs. weight class, winning her Regional Final bout with a third-round pin. Over the course of the weekend, Escareno finished with a 4-0 record at Region and notched three of those victories by pin. She now earns the No. 1 seed in the 102 lbs. weight class into the 5A Girls state tournament, which will be held at the Berry Center in Cypress.
Joining Alyssa at state will be Refugio Salgado, Cohen Beacom and Daniel Morris, who will compete in the Boys 5A state wrestling meet in Cypress. Both Refugio and Daniel earned the bronze medal in their respective weight classes and Cohen finished in the top five to earn a spot at State.
