Dripping Springs Tigers fall short in the Regional finals

The Tigers entered the UIL 5A Regional Finals after defeating Gregory-Portland High School on Friday with a final score of 3-1 in Corpus Christi. In the Regional Finals, the Tigers faced a familiar opponent, Boerne-Champion. The Tigers won both games during the regular season, but they were unable to get the win in their third meeting. The Tigers finished the 2022 season with a 25-1 record. They are the defending 2021 State Champions and were looking to punch their ticket to the State Tournament in Georgetown next weekend. 

In the regional finals with Boerne-Champion, both teams battled the heat and very strong wind. The Tigers scored first in the first half and Boerne-Champion scored a goal in the second half. Both teams battled but the score remained at 1 – 1 at the end of regulation play. The game went into extended overtime, but both teams were unable to score. At the end of overtime play, they both went to a penalty kick/shootout and Boerne-Champion won the shootout 3-1.
