AUSTIN – Protests erupted last weekend in Austin, following the climactic overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court.

Hundreds of people arrived with signs protesting the decision, and police were mobilized to ensure order and peace amongst the group as protesters held signs and shouted. Protests are expected to continue intermittently through the week.

Texas played a large role in the overturning of Roe V. Wade as it is was the first state to create a bill that effectively outlawed abortion called the Texas Heartbeat Act. The law, which made anyone who helped or participated in an abortion after detection of a heartbeat eligible for a lawsuit by private individuals, was challenged, and brought before the Supreme Court, which eventually lead to the recent verdict.
