BUDA — In a letter sent out to Johnson HS parents, teachers and staff, Hays CISD Chief Communication Officer Tim Savoy said that there is an ongoing investigation regarding a gun threat that was found written on a bathroom wall at the high school, claiming that there will be a shooting on Sept. 22.
“Upon learning about this threat late yesterday evening, we immediately involved law enforcement and our internal district safety and security staff,” Savoy wrote. “The investigation, which is currently underway, started in the overnight hours. … We take all threats seriously and investigate them thoroughly. Many times, threats written on a bathroom wall turn out to be not credible. However, we can never make that assumption. We operate from the standpoint that the threat is serious unless and until law enforcement determines otherwise.”
“I want to thank the students and adults who brought this to our attention and our law enforcement partners who responded quickly, as they always do,” Savoy continued. “Nothing is more important than the safety of our students, staff, and everyone on campus. I also want to thank you for trusting us with the safety of your children. As always, if you see or hear something, be sure to tell us.”
Savoy said that the district will be providing another update by the end of the day on Sept. 21. The Hays Free Press/News-Dispatch will provide updates as soon as information becomes available.
