Never Ending Legacy
There is a treasure in Jars of Clay to reveal Hellen Pichardo’s ministry to love her family, donate to single mom’s organizations and compassion for those in need, that will never cease. Her finger prints left a mark to spur others on to the prize in the Jars of Clay. Even though Hellen endured physical challenges, she was able to press on through her ministry. 2 Corinthians 4:7 tells us Hellen’s life had storms but she was NOT forsaken. She fought hard and was graciously surrounded by family taking her breath in heaven, July 9, 2024.
Hellen Pichardo was born March 20, 1949 in Bastrop, Texas to Trinidad Delgado and Lidia (Castillo) Delgado. She grew up in a family of 5 with her parents and three sisters. In the early years of Hellen’s family, her father was a carpenter and Lidia Serna worked at the cleaners and would drive to Lubbock to pick cotton. Hellen’s hard work stemmed from the livelihood of her parents.
Hellen was married to her beloved, Jesus Pichardo for over 49 years on February 28, 1975 in Austin, Texas. She is preceded in death by her father, Trinidad Delgado, sister, Lillie Delgado, and sister, Janie Delgado. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her mother, Lidia C. Serna; children, Lydia Sahley (Chris Sahley), Lillie Salas (Buddy Salas), Jacob Pichardo, Roman Pichardo and Joshua Pichardo; sister, Deborah Luna and 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Hellen was a financial auditor at the Internal Revenue Services (IRS) for over 28 years, where she retired. Her dedication to ensure compliance with all tax laws, regulations and verify financials protocols confirms her faithfulness for everything she accomplished.
One of her greatest and fulfilling devotions was the care of her “boys” (sons; Jacob and Joshua). She had a fruitful schedule to take them to their appointments, physical therapy at the YMCA and attentiveness to their wellbeing.
Hellen loved cooking for family and friends. She was known for her signature desserts; carrot cake and cobblers. These deserts were winners of the heart! Everyone could not get enough. Many people even bartered for her carrot cakes. Her chicken flautas made head waves with requests at many family functions.
Hellen always loved a challenge and would never settle for giving up. She learned how to do plumbing, minor electrical tasks and even install sheetrock.
Her love for the Lord prompted her to pray every night for her family and friends. This kept her strong and encouraging others to do the same. She has left an endless legacy that has passed down to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A legacy that perseveres and will continue to leave finger prints.
