Staff Report BUDA — Residents from Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care are preparing to take over the kitchen on Sept. 27 for a Spaghetti Benefit Dinner.
In an effort to support the Brown Santa Program, a nonprofit that provides gifts and food to those in need, the residents are cooking a feast that aims to collect donations and books for underprivileged families, a news release read.
Those participating in the meal prep have undergone training and earned their food handlers certification for the event.
Last year, the event raised $747, which allowed the residents to hand-pick and donate 109 books to the Brown Santa Program. This year, Journeyman Senior Living will be matching all donations, so the facility is hoping to double its donations.
‘The residents are looking forward to rolling up their sleeves, putting on their aprons and bringing the community together for an evening of food, fun and giving back,’ said Susan LaBree, executive director of Buda Oaks. ‘Our residents are ready to prove that great food and good deeds go hand in hand!’
The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 at Buda Oaks, located at 1120 Cabelas Dr, with the entry fee a new or gently used children or teen book or a $12 donation.
