Fraser Billings Harris, a cherished artist, educator, and family man, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, in Kyle, Texas, at the age of 84.
He was born on July 18, 1940, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Douglas Wayne Harris and Henrietta Braker.
Growing up, he spent many years in Thailand and Laos as his parents worked to help build an industrial arts school and taught English.
After graduating high school, he received a bachelor’s degree in art and industrial arts from Southwest Texas State University in 1962 and a Master of Fine Arts from New Mexico Highlands in University 1965.
He began his career as an art and industrial arts teacher at Alvin Junior High School where he met his wife Linda Wood, who was also a teacher. They eventually relocated to Buda, Texas and he taught ceramics and design at Southwest Texas State University for 5 years. He opened his own studio and eventually became a full-time artist. He primarily worked as a potter but was also a talented woodworker and metal worker.
Fraser was known for his creativity, talent and humor. He was a kind and thoughtful man, and his legacy will continue through his family and the many lives he touched.
Fraser is survived by his wife Linda Wood Harris, daughter Lisa Harris (Amy Rohsner), son Steven Harris (Martha), grandchildren Haley and Zane Harris and Alyssa Romo. He was preceded in death by his parents Douglas Harris and Henrietta Braker Harris, his brother Charles Harris and sister Heather Loyo.
As we bid farewell to Fraser, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of laughter, art, and compassion. He will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the beauty he brought into the world will endure.
