Hilda Fay Lawrence went home to her Heavenly Father on December 22, 2024.
A loving grandmother and mother, a dutiful daughter, and a warm friend, Hilda was born in Turkey, Texas, in 1931 to Faye and Dewitt Huffines. Hilda was quick to laugh, and her quirky sense of humor will be missed by her family and many friends at First Baptist Church of Dripping Springs and the Hill Country Senior Center’s thrift shop.
She loved people, and no one hobby could hold her attention for long. She excelled at painting, and preferred to insert her own eccentric touches, usually bright blue dogs or painted buntings, into familiar landscapes she picked up on sale. Mostly she enjoyed rambling around town on little errands, visiting with people. Hilda loved people like she loved stray cats, and greeted everyone she knew with a quick pat on the back and something to nibble.
She is dearly missed by her surviving family: her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Ted Strahan, her two granddaughters, Amy Strahan and Bethany Valles, and her great-grandchildren, Chloe Valles and James Valles, III. She is predeceased by her parents, Dewitt and Fay Huffines, and her husband, Robert Lawrence.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church Dripping Springs, with funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Phillips Cemetery.
