Geraldine Fogle McCormick, known as “Jerry” to her friends and family, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 25, 2025, in Buda, Texas. Born on March 29, 1923, in Thompsonville, Texas, Jerry’s vibrant spirit and warm heart touched the lives of those around her for 101 remarkable years.
Jerry graduated from Yoe High in Cameron, Texas. Furthering her education, she attended business school in Austin, which serendipitously led her to the love of her life, a young physician named Dr. T.C. McCormick. Their love story was one for the ages, beginning with their marriage on June 28, 1942, and spanning seventy years until Dr. McCormick’s passing in 2012.
Together, they built a life filled with love and service in Buda, Texas, where they raised their four children. Dr. McCormick may have been the town physician, but Jerry was equally integral to the community. As the PTA President of Buda schools in the 1950s, the Postmaster in the early 1960s, and the official First Lady of Buda in the 1980s during her husband’s mayoral term, Jerry’s dedication to her community was unwavering. Her commitment to the First Baptist Church of Buda was evident as she served in various roles including Sunday School teacher, a member of the Hospitality Committee, and as a chairperson for the church’s 100th-anniversary celebration.
Jerry was a gifted conversationalist, who possessed the remarkable ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room. Her home was a haven of hospitality, where visitors were greeted with a big hug and her undivided attention. Jerry’s passion for sports was legendary among her friends and family. She was an avid fan of professional golf, tennis, and had a special place in her heart for the Dallas Cowboys and the Lady Longhorns basketball team.
Affectionately named “Mema Jerry” by her grandchildren, her legacy extends through her loving family, who will cherish her memory. She is survived by her daughter Debbie and husband Garry Vacek, son John McCormick and wife Cindy, and her adoring grandchildren Melanie and husband Garry Kaufman, Angela and husband Alex Castano, Kelley McCormick and wife Elizabeth, Karen and husband Jayson Dilworth, Wayne Vacek and wife Melissa, Amy and husband Mark Kubecka, Stephen Vacek and wife Kim, Chuck McCormick and wife Allie, and Tommy McCormick and wife Mendi. Her legacy also includes 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, who will no doubt grow up hearing tales of their matriarch’s warmth and wisdom. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, her son Thad McCormick and wife Susan, and son Mike McCormick.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Charles, as they worship their Lord and Savior in heaven for eternity.
