Walter Savage “Nub” McFarlin, of Waelder, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the age of 64. He was born on April 13, 1960, to parents, Eldon and Bannice Leath McFarlin, in Freeport, Texas.
Nub is survived by his wife, Maureen McFarlin; son, Steven McFarlin and his wife Penny; son, James McFarlin and and his wife Maura; grandchildren, Anthony Jones and Jackson McFarlin; sister, Sharon Hudson and her husband John; sister, DeAnn Hauptrief and husband Terry; sister, Kelly Woytek and husband Dave; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Travis McFarlin and Richard McFarlin.
Nub was a natural father with a strong moral compass. He could display a soft touch, soothing voice, and comfort to his family while sternly keeping them in line. At the same time, he was an incessant tease who kept us laughing and entertained with his wild side. Seeing him with his grandson was a special blessing. He enjoyed his role as Pappy and was willing to go far outside of his comfort zone to see his grandson smile. He protected us all and fulfilled his duties as a man.
As a man of faith, nature was a big part of his spirituality and inspired his trust in God. Trapping and hunting were a huge part of his life, and he was a strong advocate for the 2nd amendment. He was a brilliant man who thought outside of the box, could fix or build anything, and worked extremely hard. The gifts that he gave to us in his life will live on in his sons and his grandsons. He will be deeply missed by his wife Maureen, his boys, and the rest of his family.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Wimberley Cemetery in Wimberley, Texas. Pallbearers will be Steven McFarlin, James McFarlin, Anthony Jones, Ty McFarlin, Dickey Haverda, and John Hudson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Flatonia Baptist Church in Flatonia, Texas State Rifle Association in Bastrop, Hand To Hold, or a charity of your choice. Floral arrangements to be delivered to the service can be made through The Floral Studio in San Marcos Texas at 512-392-4656
