Robert Alan Johnson
July 25, 1962 – February 28, 2025
Robert Alan “Bobby” Johnson of New Braunfels, Texas, departed this world on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 62, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and quiet humility. Because of his strong faith in God, he walked through life with gentleness as he touched the lives of many people-friends, family, students, and co-workers-with the hope he always reflected the love of Christ.
Through the years, Bobby accomplished much as a classroom teacher and eventually a professor in higher education. Bobby taught history in Brazos ISD, Kerrville ISD, and Comal ISD. He also taught history at San Antonio College, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College, LeTourneau University, and St. Philip’s College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Geography from Texas State University, a Master of Arts in US History from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Doctor of Philosophy in US History from Texas Christian University. He enjoyed serving several years on the Gregg County Historical Commission, the board of directors for the Gregg County Historical Foundation, and the advisory council for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board College & Career Readiness Initiative. While at LeTourneau University, he was the recipient of the Robert H. Selby Teaching Scholar Award for exemplifying the highest standards of teaching excellence. These places of education and service, as well as serving through his church, is where he touched the lives of many people. Being a good listener and putting others ahead of himself was important to Bobby. Though he accomplished much professionally, his most cherished accomplishment was being a dad to his daughters, Emily and Hannah.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents Moe and Gene Johnson, and his beloved grandparents, Horace and Ruth Crumley. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Alex Muszynski of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Hannah Johnson of New Braunfels, Texas; sister, Leslie Jones and her husband Glen of Abilene, Texas; brother, Buddy Johnson and his wife Nancy of Buda, Texas.
Private interment of ashes will take place at Mo-Ranch’s Serenity Hill columbarium in Hunt, Texas, since Mo-Ranch was a place of personal significance to Bobby. He enjoyed God’s creation and found relaxation and renewal at Mo-Ranch, including meaningful and true worship. Recognizing the importance of medical research for helping those in the future who will experience dementia, whether as a patient or caregiver, Bobby’s brain and spinal cord were donated to the Brain Bank at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases with hope his donation will further the biomedical understanding of neurological diseases.

Many, many thanks to the small but mighty army of friends and family who supported Bobby and Pam through the years as they were on a long and winding journey. Their load was lightened by your prayers, visits, texts, calls, and sincere concern for what they were enduring. Thanks to Hope Hospice-especially Kaci, Christian, and Chaplain Mike- for their excellent care and thanks to Mercy House for providing care to Bobby like he was their beloved family member. We are all just walking each other home, and Bobby has safely arrived in the heavenly home Christ has prepared for him. Bobby’s weak mortal body has been changed into a healthy and whole glorious body and mind. May we all see him again, knowing him more fully than we do now when we reach our heavenly destination and experience our true citizenship.
